Ashton

Ashton operates on the principle that the most important element of a great cigar is the quality of the maker. Robert Levin chose the Fuente family because of their craftsmanship and commitment to long-aged tobaccos — the Ashton Classic uses Dominican fillers aged at least four years, and the Ashton Aged Maduro uses tobaccos aged five years. The house style favors smooth, refined Connecticut Shade-wrapped blends as the brand foundation, with progressively stronger blends (VSG, ESG) for smokers seeking more body. Ashton positions itself at the prestige end of Dominican cigars without crossing into ultra-premium pricing.

History

House Story

Ashton was founded in 1985 by Robert Levin, who began work on the brand's first release in 1983-84. The Ashton name came from a friend of Levin's who imported and distributed Ashton-branded pipes — Levin liked the name and adopted it for his cigar brand. The first Ashton cigars were manufactured at Tabacos Dominicanos (Tabadom), the Dominican Republic factory operated by Henke Kelner.

After a couple of years at Tabadom, Levin transferred production to Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. — the Fuente family's factory in Santiago — where Ashton has been produced ever since. The Fuente family's cigar-making craftsmanship became the foundation of Ashton's reputation for refined, balanced Dominican cigars. Ashton has been a perennial top-three brand in the United States for more than three decades and is sold in over 60 countries.

The company is family-owned and currently operates as a father-and-son operation under Robert Levin and his son Sathya Levin. The brand has expanded over the years to include multiple lines: Ashton Classic (the original Connecticut Shade-wrapped blend), Ashton Aged Maduro, Ashton Heritage Puro Sol, Ashton VSG (Virgin Sun Grown), and Ashton ESG (Estate Sun Grown). The Levin family also owns and operates the La Aroma de Cuba brand.
