Davidoff

Davidoff operates on the philosophy that great cigars come from rigorous, consistent quality control across every stage — from tobacco selection to fermentation to rolling. Davidoff's factory in the Dominican Republic is among the most modernized premium cigar facilities in the world. The house style favors mild-to-medium balanced profiles with cedar, cream, and floral notes; Davidoff has historically positioned itself as the most refined option in premium cigars, emphasizing subtlety over intensity. Multiple lines (Aniversario, Grand Cru, Signature, Millennium) provide variations on this core character at different price points and formats.

History

House Story

Davidoff cigars carry the name of Zino Davidoff (born Sussele-Meier Davidoff in 1906 in Novhorod-Siverskyi). The Davidoff family relocated to Geneva, Switzerland in 1911, where Zino's father Henri Davidoff opened a small tobacco shop that became a gathering place for pipe and cigar smokers. In the 1920s, Zino traveled extensively through Central and South America, visiting tobacco-growing regions in Cuba, Brazil, and Nicaragua — experiences that shaped his philosophy on tobacco quality.

In 1967, Cubatabaco approached Zino Davidoff about creating a line of cigars carrying the Davidoff name, and in 1968 the first Davidoff cigars were released as Cuban-made products. After conflicts with Cuban authorities and concerns about quality consistency, Davidoff discontinued Cuban production in 1989-90. After test runs, Zino Davidoff partnered with Hendrik Kelner of Tabadom in the Dominican Republic, and the first Dominican-made Davidoff cigars launched in 1991.

Davidoff is now part of Oettinger Davidoff AG, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. The non-cigarette tobacco portfolio includes Davidoff, Camacho, AVO, and Zino Platinum brands. Davidoff cigars are produced in the Dominican Republic and Honduras, with tobaccos sourced from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, Honduras, and the United States. Zino Davidoff died in 1994. The Grand Cru series, the Aniversario No. 1 and No. 2, and the Davidoff Signature line remain core to the brand identity.
